You don’t see 3D floral art like mine every day. I’m proud that it’s unusual, eclectic, and profoundly interesting—but also very beautiful. My pieces are, at the very least, conversation starters.
The Unexpected Beginning
One of the most common questions I receive is, “How did you get started doing this?” My answer usually surprises people: buttercream.
The Gaffey Art Materials product I use is exorbitantly expensive to make textured floral paintings, and I’ve only seen one or two other artists creating work similar to mine. I followed their Instagram accounts for a while and just knew in my bones this was something I could do.
Diving into the Art
So I decided to go for it. Only one hurdle—I had no idea how to pipe flowers. (Totally on brand for me, by the way.) I researched stiff buttercream recipes, bought food coloring and cake supplies, and did a deep dive on the internet for piping tutorials. Then I went to town.
I spent nearly two years practicing cupcake decorating and honing the muscle memory needed to get all the designs just right. It was a labor of love. Each cupcake was a step closer to my goal.
Eventually, I tried a few paint kits from Gaffey to see how I liked it. And… oh snap. I fell completely in love. Gah-gah kind of love. Infatuated. Obsessed, really. It didn’t take long for me to switch from frosting to paint.
The Transformation
Fast forward to the summer of 2025—I began painting full time. This was a pivotal moment for me. I embraced the challenge and the thrill of creating something unique.

It’s been an incredibly exciting journey, and I’m deeply grateful.
My Artistic Process
Creating 3D floral art is not just about the materials; it’s about the process. I start with a vision. Each piece begins as an idea in my mind. I sketch it out, imagining the colors and textures. Then, I gather my supplies.
Once I have everything ready, I begin the layering process. I apply the paint with precision, building up the texture. It’s like sculpting with color. I often find myself lost in the moment, completely absorbed in my work.
The Joy of Creation
There’s something magical about watching a piece come to life. Each stroke adds depth and dimension. I love experimenting with different techniques. Sometimes, I’ll try something new, just to see how it turns out.
The thrill of creating is unmatched. It’s a blend of excitement and satisfaction. I often think about how far I’ve come. From buttercream to paint, my journey has been transformative.
Connecting with Others
One of the best parts of being an artist is connecting with others. I love sharing my work and hearing feedback. It’s incredible to see how people react to my art. Each piece tells a story, and I enjoy sharing those stories.
I often get messages from people who appreciate my work. They tell me how it resonates with them. It’s heartwarming to know my art can touch others in such a meaningful way.
Looking Ahead
As I continue my journey, I’m excited about what’s next. I want to explore new techniques and expand my portfolio. There’s always something new to learn in the world of art. I’m eager to push my boundaries and see where my creativity takes me.
I’m also looking forward to collaborating with other artists. There’s so much talent out there, and I believe we can inspire each other. Together, we can create something truly special.
Conclusion
Now you know how I got started piping paint flowers. It’s been a wild ride, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My passion for 3D floral art continues to grow, and I’m excited to share it with the world.
If you’re curious about my work, feel free to explore more. Each piece is a reflection of my journey, and I hope it inspires you as much as it inspires me.
